What it takes to become a Tattoo Artist

It may sound harsh but being a tattoo artist is not a child’s play. If any one has a chicken’s heart then he should better put the idea of being a tattoo artist on the rack and stay home watering the lilies! Not every ambitious tattoo artist manages to make it big here. For it may sound rewarding, but tattoo art is a very different ball game from the other art forms. That said, there are a few things, which if worked upon well, can surely make the road to the pinnacle in this industry easy for you.

To become a tattoo artist all you need to have is artistic sensibility and skills, a strong portfolio, luck and pots of cash. Strange or frightening, whatever it may sound but it is the truth.

The first one of this list is something which even a five year old guy can understand. If you want to be a tattoo artist and would draw a Bob Marley picture instead of Marilyn Monroe then stop daydreaming about becoming a tattoo artist. Come on! You need to be a damn good artist first.

The reason lies in the fact that they do not have the knack to understand the fine line between being a tattoo artist and being an artist. You should be pro-active about inferring the minds of people when it comes to tattooing. Here people will expect you to draw all kinds of weird tattoo designs to you and you can not say no to them. Hence keeping oneself updated is the biggest challenge that the tattoo industry throws up in front of the emerging tattoo artist.

You can not expect to get the job of a tattoo artist by dint of those sketches which you had drawn in your art notebook while you were in nursery!! You need to have a strong portfolio consisting of myriad tattoo designs from all over the world. Apart from the artistic genius, tattoo studios from all over the world look for versatility.

Once you get selected in a tattoo studio as a tattoo artist then you should always go for maintaining strong and warm relationship with your co-designers. Your luck will do the rest for you. The last thing which one needs to have is a kick-ass attitude which would help the artist in dealing with all those NO which they might hear from the tattoo studios.
